A free webinar run by Innovate UK will show entrepreneurs in the South West how to apply for a share of £25m in R&D grants to support their businesses.

Innovate UK grants are a significant source of funding for companies with cutting-edge research and development (R&D). Last year the agency, which is part of the government’s UK Research and Innovation, helped businesses in the South West raise more than £16m in grants.

The webinar, which offers free registration, will focus on applying for Smart Grants. It will outline eligibility for the grants, providing applicants with clarity on whether they meet the criteria and highlight how to score highly in the competitive application process.

A funding competition for Smart Grants was announced by Innovate UK in January and gives UK companies the opportunity to apply for a share of £25m to “deliver game-changing and commercially viable R&D innovation that can significantly impact the UK economy”. Entries close on 26th May.

According to Innovate UK, applications can come from any area of technology, including:

  • The arts, design and media
  • Creative industries
  • Science or engineering

The webinar, which is advertised through Plymouth Science Park, takes place on Tuesday 9th March 0845 – 0945. Advice will be provided on preparing financials and gathering critical information, as well as a walk through the competition questions.

The speaker is Dr Ben Masheder, Access to Funding and Finance Manager, Innovate UK EDGE, South West.
