Plymouth’s science and technology centre has praised local businesses for resilience, innovation, and growth during these unprecedented times.

Plymouth Science Park is home to a number of these firms and is a centre of excellence for ground-breaking research, business, and laboratory innovation.

On the science park's website, the team at the park expressed their passion for supporting local talent and celebrating the innovative businesses and entrepreneurs working in Plymouth.

Ian McFadzen, chief executive officer of Plymouth Science Park, said: “It’s been a really tough year, and local businesses really deserve recognition and support for their resilience, innovation, and growth in the face of adversity.

“After overcoming the pandemic’s challenges, we can focus on the future.”

As such, it’s no surprise that Plymouth Science Park is sponsoring the Innovation Award at the Plymouth Live Business Awards 2021, and co-sponsoring the FutureTech Award at the Tech South West Awards 2021 alongside Exeter Science Park.

Innovative mindset

Plymouth Science Park boasts many businesses that drive innovation in the region and across the world.

Members of the community at the park include start-ups and academics, a hub for health tech, advanced engineering, and marine and technological advancements.

Businesses come from far and wide to grow, supported by its vibrant and thriving community of innovators.

Ian said: “We’re proud to be home to a number of diverse innovative brands, including Synopsys, pioneers of silicon to software solutions; Magicseaweed, global surf forecasters; and BMT, worldwide leaders in design and engineering for defence, energy, ports, mining, and transport.

“By having so many businesses from such a broad spectrum of sectors sharing an innovative mindset, our tenants and the team at the park help businesses to collaborate, excel and thrive.”

Community of enterprising business

A vibrant and thriving community of innovators, the 25-acre park is a hub of science and technology advancement and has benefited from five impressive phases of development over the last 25 years.

Ian said: “Plymouth Science Park companies are part of a community of enterprising businesses which are at the forefront of so many fields. It’s an incredibly exciting and visionary place to be.

“We are more than just a landlord. We connect businesses to talent, potential collaborators, non-executives and investors to help grow our economy.”

Working together

Ian believes that through building partnerships in the business community, we support each other by making introductions, providing direction to resources, and celebrating achievements.

He said: “The more businesses can build partnerships and help each other, the more we can collaborate, thrive, and drive growth. By working together we can continue growing Plymouth’s world-class business community.”
