SW firm hooks up new vaccination centre with ultrafast broadband in just 3 weeks
South West internet service provider Jurassic Fibre has connected a new Covid-19 mass vaccination centre in Exeter to full fibre broadband in an ultrafast turnaround.
The company worked closely with Greendale Business Park, where the vaccination centre is located, to provide its full fibre broadband to the site at short notice.
Greendale approached Jurassic Fibre at the beginning of April to say that the business park would be hosting the new mass vaccination centre, replacing the previous vaccination centre at Westpoint.
Two areas of the Greendale Business Park and Greendale Farm Shop were developed into the new vaccination sites (one walk-in centre and one drive-through centre), designed alongside the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E).
The broadband will link the two sites at Greendale with the rest of the NHS network, allowing staff to access full fibre connectivity, even in temporary buildings.
Jurassic Fibre completed the project in three weeks, from the initial call to the broadband being installed. The company built out its existing network in the area in order to provide ultrafast connectivity to the greenfield site.
Jurassic Fibre took a flexible approach to working with contractors on the project and ensured that connectivity was available well before the centre opened for its first vaccinations on Friday 7th May.
The Greendale site administered over 50,000 vaccinations in its first six weeks.
Steve Garrood, Chief Commercial Officer at Jurassic Fibre, said: “I am extremely proud of the whole team for their hard work and dedication to connect the vaccination centre in such a short period of time. The centre is an important asset for the City of Exeter in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and the full fibre connectivity will ensure that its processes can continue to run smoothly.”
Sam Kirkness, Group Head of Property at Greendale Group, said: “Within a very short timeframe, Jurassic Fibre pulled out all the stops to ensure that the broadband connections were delivered in time for the new NHS vaccination centres. It was a pleasure working with their Sales and Operational teams to deliver the required service and we were hugely grateful for the adaptability, speed and efficiency that was shown by those involved from Jurassic Fibre. A fantastic service.”
Jurassic Fibre is armed with £250 million investment from Fern Trading, advised by Octopus Investments, to build its own cutting-edge network across Devon, Somerset and Dorset, passing over 360,000 premises. The network provides unrivalled connectivity, with ultrafast speeds of up to 950Mbps for residents and 10Gbps for businesses.
The company has a goal to transform digital connectivity in the region, providing world-class broadband to hard-to-reach communities which have been overlooked by other providers.
