TouchByte, a Cornish based technology innovator focussed on facial recognition, has been acquired by global market leader SALTO Systems.

TouchByte, based in Falmouth, has developed biometric technology that enables users to access spaces using facial recognition technology.

It works by irreversibly converting an image of the user into a series of numbers, including measurements between the eyes, nose, and face shape. This information is then securely used to either grant or deny access to a particular space.

The technology can be used in a variety of different sectors, settings and applications including, Hospitality, Health, Education, Residential, Shared Workspace and in large office environments. Anywhere where opening a door needs to be safe, secure and convenient.

TouchByte was launched in 2015 and is led by Jeremy Sneller, a business development expert with leadership experience across a range of sectors including sales, biometrics, AI and telecommunications. Jeremy is also an Enterprise Advisor for a local college, helping and coaching young people to realise a meaningful career in Digital IT.

With its acquisition of TouchByte, SALTO intends to accelerate the development and time-to-market of the “first and most advanced global face recognition access control solution”.

Jeremy Sneller, Managing Director of TouchByte, told South West Tech Daily: “I’m so proud of the TouchByte team for their support and dedication over the years to get us to a position where a global company like SALTO sees value in acquiring us. It also is a great example for the South West as we have proved that setting up a high tech company from scratch in a remote part of the UK, you can be extremely successful. For me personally it proves that you can be an entrepreneur at any age - if you have a dream, don’t wait to go after it, you never know what might happen - I did!”

Marc Handels, Chief Technology & Innovation Officer at SALTO Systems, said: "Our acquisition of Touchbyte is a natural step forward in our mission to bring innovative and cutting-edge technology to the access control market. With our future face recognition solution, we aim to provide our customers with a secure and frictionless way of accessing their buildings and facilities."
