Data company Klarian, which is based at Exeter Science Park, has secured a project with the British Pipeline Agency Ltd. (BPA) across their UK network – the company which operates the pipeline network that transports petroleum products around the UK.

In a recent project, Klarian successfully identified potential throughput cost savings for BPA. Following this success, BPA has approved the expansion of Klarian’s Digipipe platform into its wider UK pipeline network.

Ultimately, BPA plans to progress Digipipe to its more complex multi-product pipeline infrastructure which will enable Klarian to optimise BPA’s pumping operations by transforming data into performance clarity for greener and more efficient operations.

Klarian, which was established in 2015, specialises in optimising pipeline infrastructure for a more sustainable planet, using cutting-edge IIoT technology, including expert system analytics, artificial intelligence and multi-level interconnectivity with APIs and field-programmable edge computers. The company was named a One to Watch 2023 by Tech South West, an organisation that supports the tech sector across the South West region.

Klarian’s real-time analytics platform, Digipipe, captures operations data to mitigate risks, optimise production, improve efficiencies and comply with regulatory and environmental goals.

At the end of 2022, BPA asked Klarian to investigate the pumping operations of a single-product jet-fuel pipeline supplying a major UK airport. Deploying their secure real-time analytics platform, Digipipe, Klarian identified several potential opportunities for BPA to improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

Rob Clegg, Chief Executive Officer of Klarian Ltd, said: “We are proud and delighted to be working with BPA. Klarian’s technology and data capabilities combined with BPA’s desire to innovate, present a distinctive opportunity to optimise their operations for an efficient and data-driven network.”

John Armstrong, Chief Executive Officer of BPA, said: “Working with Klarian on one of our jet fuel pipelines has revealed several areas where we can make significant efficiency gains and increases in throughput. We’re looking forward to seeing what they reveal as we expand their offering across our network.”
