The University of Exeter has been ranked the best in Europe for its work on climate change in the Times Higher Education Impact rankings.

The University, which ranked in 8th place globally behind institutions based in Australia, Canada and the US, also ranked third highest in the UK against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Some of the measures taken into account for the ranking include low-carbon energy use, a commitment to carbon-neutrality and working with local and national government to address climate change.

Stuart Brocklehurst, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Business Engagement and Innovation at the University of Exeter, said on LinkedIn: "The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are a vital measure of the difference universities make in the world. I’m delighted that the University of Exeter has been ranked the No. 1 British university for our work on climate change. Measured against the UN Sustainable Development Goals, overall we’re the third highest ranked UK institution.

"The work my brilliant colleagues undertake is vital to our understanding of climate change, and of the steps we must take to address it. I’m immensely proud of them all, it’s a daily thrill and joy to work with amazing people on the most critical question of our era."
