Kelpi wins prestigious Falling Walls Science Start-up award

Bristol-based greentech firm Kelpi has been named a winner in the Science Start-ups category of the Falling Walls global science summit 2023. 

Kelpi, named a Tech South West One to Watch in 2023, is a material innovation company working to replace single-use plastics with premium performance bioplastics that harness the novel properties and environmental benefits of seaweed. 

The company will present on stage to at the Falling Walls Science Summit 2023 in Berlin on 7–9 November (the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall) to pitch for the crown of Science Breakthrough of the Year 2023. 

The Falling Walls Science Summit is a prestigious three-day gathering uniting experts from across scientific disciplines to explore groundbreaking research and foster collaborative solutions for the challenges of our time. As a global platform for scientific exchange, this annual event serves as a catalyst for innovation, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, and promoting breakthrough thinking.

 “This is a huge accolade, recognising Kelpi’s ground-breaking work in the space,” said Kelpi’s Chief Scientific Officer Dr Stefanie Federle. “Having developed a truly biodegradable material with an industry-leading water barrier, meeting the needs of some of the world’s largest companies in food & drink, cosmetics & personal care, we are honoured now to be named a Falling Walls Science Start-Up winner.”
