Two major events in the cyber security calendar are coming together for the first time in 2025 to create “a unique and connected experience for businesses, professionals, and the community”.

Secure South West (SSW) and BSides Exeter will be held on 25th and 26th April 2025 respectively at the University of Exeter, offering an oopportunity for collaboration, networking, and learning in the heart of the South West.

The two-day gathering will also feature the highly anticipated Next-Gen Track, a dedicated space for fostering secondary education students in the South West into the cyber security field.

These events aim to shine a spotlight on the growing role of cyber security in shaping both business success and societal responsibility.

Secure South West: Leading the ESG conversation in cyber security

Secure South West, delivered by the South West Cyber Security Cluster with support from Tech South West, provides a platform for businesses to highlight the intersection of cyber security providers and their broader societal value, particularly in relation to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Building on last year’s event, which attracted nearly 500 attendees, SSW will focus on the “Social” aspect of ESG - examining how cyber security plays a critical role in the stability and progress of society. Keynote speakers from the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology and Ofcom will explore topics such as cyber regulation and enforcement under the Online Safety Act.

“Businesses today must demonstrate their role as societal supporters, especially in the context of ESG,” said Geoff Revill, organiser of Secure South West. “Our event will bridge the gap between cyber and society, helping organisations understand how to align their cyber posture and brand with societal values and governance.”

The event will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the South West Cyber Security Cluster, which has done much to help South West based businesses and organisations to protect themselves against growing cyber threats.

Dan Pritchard, co-founder and director of Tech South West, said of the conference: “This event promises to provide real values to industry leaders seeking to navigate the choppy waters of cybersecurity and business governance. From startup founders to leaders of established businesses, understanding the increasingly vital connection between cyber technology and social value is fundamental to building a resilient, responsible brand.”

BSides Exeter: Strengthening cyber talent and community

BSides Exeter, which debuted in 2024, is set to return even bigger in 2025.

BSides Exeter is part of over 4000 annual global community-driven cyber security events designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The event will build on last year’s success, offering over 400 attendees the chance to engage with a diverse range of professionals, from students to seasoned experts.

BSides Exeter currently has an open call for papers, and is looking for new faces to speak at the event.

“Last year’s response was incredible, and it’s clear there’s a huge appetite for cyber security in our region,” said Peter Jones, co-organiser of BSides Exeter. “We’re focused on not just supporting today’s professionals but also inspiring young people and career changers to see the exciting opportunities available in cyber security.”

A united effort for the South West’s cyber community

The collaboration between Secure South West and BSides Exeter represents a united effort to foster a vibrant and skilled cyber security community in the South West. By bringing together experts, businesses, students, and future leaders, the events aim to elevate the region’s cyber capabilities and create a lasting impact on both the local economy and society.

Both events will take place at the University of Exeter, with Secure South West on 25 April and BSides Exeter on 26 April 2025.

Delegates will gain opportunities for networking, learning, and engaging in hands-on experiences that highlight the critical importance of cyber security in today’s world.

Tickets for both events are now on sale, with a special focus on making them accessible to individuals at all stages of their cyber career journey. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit:
