Purpose-driven digital agency Digital Wonderlab has been named Mobile Tech of the Year at the prestigious UK Business Tech Awards, recognising its innovative work developing a groundbreaking mobile application for a global industrial energy technology company.

The win places Wiltshire-based Digital Wonderlab among the UK’s most innovative tech companies, showcasing the strength and talent of the South West’s growing tech sector. The award celebrates organisations using technology to transform and grow businesses across the country.

The winning solution forms the capstone of the client’s decade-long digital transformation. Designed to replace paper-based data capture processes, the app enables engineers to collect and synchronise huge volumes of complex data from remote sites, all entirely offline.

Operating reliably without Wi-Fi or mobile signal, the app integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and handles hundreds of data points and images. It incorporates sophisticated logic to prevent errors, protect data integrity, and ensure successful batch uploads of information once back online. Its intuitive, user-friendly interface was co-designed and tested directly with engineers working in challenging industrial environments where safety, accuracy and efficiency are paramount.

“Winning Mobile Tech of the Year is an incredible recognition of our team’s creativity, determination and technical excellence,” said Nathan Baranowski, Co-CEO of Digital Wonderlab. “This project shows what’s possible when human-centred design and robust engineering come together to transform how organisations work, especially in sectors as critical and complex as environmental and energy.”

The project was delivered by Digital Wonderlab’s in-house team of strategists, designers and developers based in the South West, in close collaboration with CRM partner Chorus. The app has already delivered transformational results, reducing survey turnaround from days to hours and enabling faster, data-driven decision making across the client’s global operations. By streamlining the process of capturing essential data that underpins major energy-efficiency projects, the tool is helping accelerate the transition to cleaner, more sustainable industrial practices. One engineer described it as “life changing.”

The judging panel praised Digital Wonderlab’s technical approach, commenting:
“Digital Wonderlab demonstrates strong technical achievements. The ‘offline-first’ architecture is particularly impressive. These capabilities are essential for reliability and performance in environments where connectivity is inconsistent, making this a standout example of thoughtful, resilient engineering.”

“This award demonstrates the power of digital innovation to unlock real-world impact,” said Tom Passmore, Director of App Solutions. “We’re proud to help our clients push the boundaries of what’s possible in industries where technology has the power to drive measurable environmental and operational benefits.”

Building on this success, Digital Wonderlab plans to expand its work in complex digital transformation across the energy, health and environmental sectors.
