Sustainable outdoor brand Terreign secures £250k SWIF investment to drive growth
Terreign Limited, a fast-growing outdoor clothing brand based in Bridgwater, has secured £250,000 in growth funding from the British Business Bank’s South West Investment Fund through appointed fund manager, The FSE Group.
The funding will support the business as it scales its product range and builds on strong early demand for its sustainably made apparel.
Founded in 2022 by Rick Thomas, Terreign designs and sells premium outdoor clothing directly to consumers online. The brand focuses on durability and sustainability, using 100% recycled materials – including plastic waste – that are transformed into yarn and woven into high-performance garments. Its range includes hoodies, T-shirts and fleece-lined products, alongside a growing selection of outdoor-focused clothing.
The £250k investment will primarily be used to fund stock purchases ahead of the key autumn sales period, as well as supporting marketing activity and operational growth. This will enable the business to meet increasing demand, broaden its product offering and invest in customer acquisition.
Rick Thomas, Founder of Terreign, said: “From day one, the goal has been to create outdoor clothing that people can rely on, without compromising on sustainability. We’ve seen a really encouraging response from customers so far, and this investment gives us the platform to take the next step. It means we can increase stock, expand the range and continue building a brand that’s focused on quality, practicality and reducing environmental impact.”
Amanda Sheppard, Investment Manager at The FSE Group, added: “Terreign has built a strong foundation in a relatively short period of time, with clear demand for its products and a compelling sustainability focus. Rick has combined commercial experience with a strong understanding of his market, and we’re delighted to provide the funding needed to scale the business.”
Lizzy Upton, Senior Investment Manager at the British Business Bank, said: “Terreign has created a distinctive outdoor brand with sustainability at its core. This £250,000 investment provides the headroom to build stock, extend its range and reach more customers. Investments such as this demonstrate how the South West Investment Fund is helping ambitious businesses across the region access the finance they need to grow, innovate and realise their potential.”
The opportunity for sustainable outdoor apparel remains strong, with consumers increasingly seeking clothing that combines performance with environmental responsibility. Terreign is positioning itself to meet this demand through a focus on recycled materials, practical design and a direct-to-consumer model, while also exploring early wholesale opportunities, including potential partnerships in the healthcare sector.
The purpose of the South West Investment Fund is to drive sustainable economic growth by supporting innovation and creating local opportunity for new and growing businesses across the South West. It offers a range of commercial finance options with smaller loans from £25k to £100k, debt finance from £100k to £2m and equity investment up to £5 million. The fund is increasing the supply and diversity of early‑stage finance for South West smaller businesses, providing funds to firms that might otherwise not receive investment and helping to break down barriers in access to finance.
