One of the South West's most prominent tech entrepreneurs has left the Exeter start-up funding platform he co-founded 12 years ago.

Luke Lang, co-founder of Crowdcube, stood down from the business at the end of last week. In an email to contacts, he said: "After emerging from the pandemic even stronger, hitting profitability and with exciting plans in place for further growth, I feel that now is a good time for me to move on and let others write the next exciting chapter in Crowdcube's history."

Crowdcube was an early pioneer of equity crowdfunding, which provides investors with opportunities to back promising early-stage businesses. Under the leadership of Lang and co-founder Darren Westlake, Crowdcube has become the world's largest equity crowdfunding platform, raising more than £1bn for companies including BrewDog, carwow, JustPark, Mindful Chef, Monzo, Revolut, and Nutmeg.

Lang is planning to take a rest over the summer before becoming SETsquared Exeter’s Entrepreneur In Residence.
