The rise of Esports

When most think of video games and esports, the first thought that likely comes to mind might be about distractions, violence, or antisocial teenagers who never come out of their rooms. In reality, esports is about teamwork, strategy, and skill development. It is an excellent way to stay connected with friends and meet others who share a common interest in the games they play.

Over the last few years, due to the pandemic, people all around the world have been staying at home with less contact with friends and family. This is where the internet and esports comes into play.

Video games allow players to immerse themselves in a world without needing to worry about keeping a two-metre distance from everyone around them. As well as that, an increased number of people began to watch professional esports which provides more interest in the games they play.

Esports is becoming increasingly popular as time passes and is unlikely to slow down anytime soon, as more money is being spent on it and global revenues grow year-on-year (reaching $1,084 million in 2021 according to Newzoo).

Awareness is also rapidly increasing and, along with it, the number of people who want to get involved with it.

The success of the College team

The successful results of Exeter College’s esports teams come down to multiple factors, including those who play on the team and those who ensure it all runs smoothly (management).

The management team, which includes students and staff, is full of people who are passionate about esports and help people play to their potential while providing a safe and fun environment that anyone can be a part of. Of course, when speaking about the teams, you cannot forget about the players themselves and how much work they have to put in for the teams. All players try their hardest in order to emerge successful in the competition and, so far, have succeeded at doing so.

The teams will continue to improve under the guidance of management and, hopefully, will continue to succeed in the competitions.

What it’s like to be a competitive gamer

Gaming can make up a huge part of a person’s life which is why having the option to take it to a highly competitive level becomes an amazing opportunity.

When competitive gamers are put together, they show what they are capable of and how much they can achieve. On top of that, they will all take what they’re doing seriously, meaning they can trust each other to play to a certain level while being able to have fun at the same time. You meet a lot of amazing people who help you thrive in your chosen environment, being a competitive gamer is about learning new strategies while teaching others about how to improve.

If someone isn’t sure about whether or not they should participate in high-ranking competitive games, they should try it. There’s nothing to lose and a strong chance that the person will enjoy being part of the team and will want to stay.
