Cornwall-based healthtech company Ultramed has won a King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category.

Founded by former NHS consultant anaesthetist Dr Paul Upton and creative director Alan Sanders, the Ultramed platform allows patients to securely share their personal health information with their healthcare teams, which reduces the number of unnecessary appointments for patients, improves patient safety and increases efficiency for healthcare providers.

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are awarded to businesses for outstanding achievement in four categories: International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity.

Backed by the NHS Innovation Accelerator, Ultramed is recognised by the UK Department of International Trade as one of the UK’s top 100 digital health companies. The Penryn company’s co-founder, Dr Paul Upton, was named as a finalist for the Tech South West Tech Leadership Award in 2022.

Paul told South West Tech Daily: “As part of the vibrant tech community in the South West, the team at Ultramed are honoured to have been recognised for our innovative work.

“Our mission is to empower patients through technology, and free healthcare teams to do what matters: caring for their patients. Our platform demonstrates what can be achieved when digital technology is used to support real world outcomes in the health sector. The Ultramed platform improves not only patient safety but also efficiency for care workers, and it is fantastic to have had our work recognised by His Majesty the King in this way.”
