Singer Instruments hosts pioneering bioart exhibition
Singer Instruments, a leading robotics company accelerating biological research, has launched a pioneering bioart exhibition at its Research and Development facility, 'The Lab', in Minehead, Somerset.
This unique event, part of the Somerset Arts Weeks Festival in September 2024, marks a first-of-its-kind initiative for West Somerset, blending cutting-edge science with artistic expression.
Bridging Science and Art
The exhibition, curated by Artist in Residence Zoe Snape, showcases a diverse range of bioart created using Singer Instruments' advanced tools. Visitors will embark on an immersive journey through the working R&D facility, experiencing the intersection of biology and artistry.
Harry Singer, CEO of Singer Instruments, said on LinkedIn: "For many years, it’s been a nerdy dream of mine to host a bioart exhibition. Well, the stars have finally aligned."
Featured Artists and Works
The exhibition has been created in collaboration with local artist, Zoe Snape.
Alongside her own work, Zoe has also curated artwork by two other labs: Microbioworld, a Brazilian lab who harvest microbes from the rainforest, and Johanna Rotko, a Finnish artist who makes 'living portraits'.
Interactive Experience
Beyond visual displays, the exhibition promises an interactive experience, allowing visitors to engage directly with the science behind the art. This hands-on approach aims to demystify complex biological concepts and inspire the next generation of scientists and artists.
This exhibition is supported by Somerset Art Works with funding from Arts Council England.
